Applications for the Practical Learning Grant will reopen on June 2, 2026
As an employer, you can once again take advantage of the Practical Learning Grant Program this year: a financial subsidy to cover the costs you incur for supervising apprentices, students, doctoral candidates, or trainee technological designers (Toio). Through this program, the government encourages employers to offer practical training positions and contribute to a well-trained workforce for the labor market.
Did you mentor an apprentice, student, doctoral candidate, or Toio participant during the past academic year? If so, you may be eligible for a grant.
The application period for the 2025–2026 academic year runs from June 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. through September 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. During this period, you can apply for grants for practical training placements within VMBO, MBO, and HBO programs, as well as for Ph.D. candidates and Toio students.
Level of subsidy
The maximum grant amount is €2,700 per completed practical or work-based learning placement. For the terms and criteria, please visit the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. View the terms and conditions and more information.
Extra subsidy for climate and energy transition
If your company, as a training partner, is mentoring an MBO student in a program that contributes to the climate and energy transition, you may also be eligible for an additional grant of up to €500 per full-time apprenticeship position. This additional subsidy is automatically included in the regular application, provided the program meets the eligibility criteria.
Important to Know
You apply for the grant retroactively, after the mentoring period and the academic year have ended. Therefore, be sure to keep all necessary documents and records in a safe place throughout the academic year.
