Developments regarding safe working with electrical machines

As is well known, Fedecom closely monitors developments in the field of machine electrification. For example, we actively contributed to the development of the new, revised NEN 9140 standard by appointing our own expert, Huib Oostdijk, to the revision committee. This involvement has resulted in the new NEN 9140 standard no longer being interpreted purely in “automotive” terms, but rather explicitly addressing electric (mobile) machinery as well. A handy poster has also been developed featuring a clear step-by-step guide titled “Working Safely on Electric Vehicles.” This guide outlines the steps required to work safely on electric vehicles. Please note: this is not a troubleshooting guide! The step-by-step guide can be downloaded for free at: 3831_NEN_Stappenplan_A2poster_NEN9140_V5_RGB.pdf. Fedecom will soon make a more comprehensive manual available regarding the new NEN 9140 standard.

Other sectors are, of course, also actively working on the transition to zero-emission operations through the use of electric equipment. For example, Bouwend Nederland, through its advisory group KOMAT, recently launched the first version of a guideline titled “Safe Use of Electric Equipment.” (Note: KOMAT is the abbreviation for Bouwend Nederland’s Equipment Contact Group and consists of more than 50 directors or heads of equipment services from Bouwend Nederland member companies. With the release of this guideline, a first step has been taken toward establishing a framework for working safely with electric equipment. This guideline enables companies and clients to eliminate unnecessary risks and establish clear agreements on the control measures to be implemented. Since we are still in the early stages of the transition to truly emission-free operations, this guideline will be updated based on new insights and experiences.
