Practical Learning Grant Program Reopens for Applications

Did you mentor an apprentice, student, doctoral candidate, or trainee in technological design during the past academic year? If so, you may be eligible for the Practical Learning Grant Program.

Through this program, the government supports employers who invest in mentoring future skilled workers. The subsidy is intended to help cover the costs you incur when mentoring apprentices and students in the workplace.

Application Requirements

The application period for the 2025–2026 academic year is now open and runs through September 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. You can apply for grants for practical training placements within VMBO, MBO, and HBO programs, as well as for doctoral candidates and trainee technological designers.

The maximum grant amount is €2,700 per completed practical or work-based learning placement.

Additional Grant for Climate and Energy Transition

If your company, as a training partner, is mentoring an MBO student in a program that contributes to the climate and energy transition, you may also be eligible for an additional subsidy of up to €500 per full-time apprenticeship position. If the program meets the requirements, this additional subsidy will automatically be included in your application.

Good to know: The subsidy is applied for retroactively, after the mentoring period and the academic year have ended. Therefore, be sure to keep track of and save all necessary documents and records.
