The European Agricultural Equipment Association (CEMA), in which Fedecom is represented, emphasizes the critical need to maintain the competitiveness of agriculture amid changing political demands. In light of this, CEMA advocates for the creation of an EU policy framework that offers farmers reliable prospects and incentives to navigate the changing agricultural landscape.

In this article, CEMA acknowledges the crucial role of renewable fuels in the transition to a more sustainable agricultural sector. As part of this effort, our industry offers various technologies that represent a promising way to reduce agriculture’s dependence on fossil fuels and significantly lower the sector’s carbon footprint in the short term.
It is essential to recognize the pressures facing the agricultural community and their willingness to embrace digitization and innovation. Farmers are actively seeking efficient and sustainable ways of working to maintain their competitiveness, and CEMA believes that supporting their efforts is crucial for the future of agriculture.
In this context, CEMA emphasizes the importance of energy subsidies for farms, particularly for their sustainability and long-term viability. Amid current challenges, including the lack of sufficient incentives and support for the adoption of renewable energy and modern technologies, CEMA urges policymakers to consider a modern restructuring of subsidy programs. This would involve a shift from incentivizing diesel use to encouraging the adoption of renewable energy sources and modern technologies, thereby ensuring a more forward-looking approach.
Furthermore, CEMA calls on policymakers to provide long-term guarantees regarding their support for sustainable energy, as well as the sustainability of progressive energy policies such as renewable fuels. These measures are vital for promoting a sustainable and resilient agricultural sector.
CEMA also emphasizes the importance of public understanding and support for farmers. CEMA acknowledges the financial pressures farmers face and their role as suppliers to the public, and calls for fair compensation for agricultural products, enabling farmers to meet consumer expectations while maintaining their operations.
Finally, CEMA highlights the potential of circular economy practices in agriculture and emphasizes the role of farmers in producing their own alternative fuels to shorten transport routes and reduce the sector’s dependence on fossil fuels.
