Fedecom, Tim, and WorldSkills Netherlands are organizing an exciting skills competition

Mobile equipment students compete for championship for two days

On Thursday, February 29, and Friday, March 1, eight vocational students specializing in mobile machinery participated in a national skills competition. In collaboration with WorldSkills Netherlands, Fedecom and Tim organized a two-day competition that thoroughly tested the knowledge and skills of the eight candidates. With this skills competition, “Skills Heroes powered by WorldSkills,” we aim to help future mobile machinery technicians recognize their talents and challenge them to reach their full potential. The competition took place at the facility of one of our members, Kraakman in Lieshout.

Over two days, participants were presented with four assignments. Two per day, requiring quite a bit of concentration and professional knowledge. Of course, the students were encouraged by fellow students and teachers of their course! On Friday, at the end of the day, a professional jury examined the performance of the eight candidates. Participants are all 'heroes' of course, but the jury selected the three best performing mechanics. Passion, expertise and skills are the ingredients that motivated the participants for two days to want to be the best. Proud of your profession, proud of your achievements, excelling in the profession you will soon be practicing.

WorldSkills Netherlands continuously draws attention to the importance of craftsmanship and vocational education among young people. It takes care of the Dutch participation in EuroSkills and WorldSkills. The organization is supported by the Ministry of OCW and many partners from vocational education and industry.

After two busy days and exciting assignments, these are the three best performing mechanics, in no particular order:

• Andries Hoeksma - Firda
• Koen van de Ven - Yuverta
• Ruud Borst - Aeres Tech

All three are invited to travel to 'Skills The Finals' in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch on March 22 to hear who will eventually become number one. The Dutch champion mobile equipment mechanic!

A Positive Outlook on Craftsmanship
Hopefully, these talented students will inspire other young people and spark their enthusiasm for a career in mobile machinery. This helps foster a positive view of the profession, which is why it’s important for Fedecom and Tim to continue investing in new generations of technicians. These three top performers demonstrate that the profession is interesting, challenging, and brings out the best in you.
