Smart Machines Development Pathway Now Available
Working in the technical field offers plenty of opportunities. That is why the technical career paths were developed as part of the Action Plan for Construction, Energy, and Technology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW). These career development paths show which roles exist within a sector, which educational programs are associated with them, and how you can enter the field or advance your career.

As of September 1, our sector also has its own career path: Smart Machines. Fedecom developed this in collaboration with the business community, educational institutions, and BMWT. The pathway—a visual roadmap—highlights the technical roles, from entry-level to specialized work, and demonstrates just how versatile and innovative our field is: agricultural machinery, milking systems, garden and park machinery, earthmoving, and material handling.

Broader Reach
The Smart Machines Career Path and the accompanying tool ensure that even people who wouldn’t normally think of our sector right away can gain insight into the roles and opportunities available. The tool on ontwikkelpadentechniek.nl shows job seekers which roles suit them—including those within Smart Machines, which they might otherwise never consider. Career coaches are also using the development paths and the tool to guide job seekers.
For Employers – Practical Guidance
Development Paths provide employers with a tool to discuss opportunities for current and future employees. They also offer practical guidance: insight into job roles, required skills, and appropriate educational programs. This makes it immediately clear which training or educational programs are needed to facilitate professional development and career advancement.
Starting in mid-September, a guide with tips specifically for employers will be published. As soon as it is available, we will, of course, share it with our members.
Training Program (SLIM Grant)
Through the SLIM subsidy, employers can receive reimbursement for a portion of the training costs for courses in the Development Paths recognized by the government. More information about the terms and conditions can be found on the website at ontwikkelpadentechniek.nl.
